Jan Botha
Director
Lumin takes much pride in introducing one of the four directors of The Lumin Foundation, Jan Botha.
Throughout my life, I have been blessed with being healthy, personally and in my immediate family. Until my dad was diagnosed with cancer in early 1997, by July of that year we have lost him at the relatively young age of 52. For my mom and five children, it was a devastating blow, especially as three of the children were still at school.
My father never complained much but the impact of chemo and radiation on him was heartbreaking to see. This strong, wise, gentle, man could hardly swallow his food and not taste it anymore due to the treatment.
His business disintegrated overnight. We lost our family home. These “side effects” of cancer are never as obvious as losing your father and there are many more. Grieving parents’ marriage falls apart, surviving siblings feel invisible in the aftermath of losing a brother or sister, grandparents struggle with their own and their children’s unbearable loss.
My heart’s desire and every other Lumin Foundation is to support those supporting the patient, in every way, shape or form possible. It is to relentlessly attack and destroy the impact of and I believe ultimately cancer itself.
Jan Botha is a business intelligence and performance management consultant with an accounting background. He is passionate about transforming people into balanced individuals that relate to others in a loving, constructive and meaningful way.
